Mobile Command
The Incident Command Unit (ICU), was acquired by through the Defense Logistics Agency, Law Enforcement Support Office Program at no cost to Kleberg County. The Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) or LESO Program, facilitates 10 US Code 2576a, which originated from the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 1997. This law allows transfer of excess Department of Defense property that might otherwise be destroyed to law enforcement agencies across the United States and its territories. All items were excess which had been turned in by military units or had been held as part of reserve stocks until no longer needed.
The ICU is 42 feet in length and 8.5 feet in width. It is equipped for a variety of uses, which include but are not limited to a mobile command post and a hostage negotiations center and dispatch communications. The ICU will be deployed for use throughout Kleberg County as needed, to serve the citizens of Kleberg County, for departmental training and for demonstration purposes. The ICU can be requested to be deployed at any incident.
The ICU is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, which includes, but is not limited to a satellite system which allows the unit to receive internet, television, and satellite telephone services, to supplement the cellular telephone system in the ICU. The ICU also contains a portable radio interoperability solution. This allows radios on different frequencies to be able to communicate with one another during an incident, when other lines of communications have failed.
